the making of lil rapunzel

Tangled steps. Welcome to another tutorial. Today we will go through my process of creating rapunzel. :)

Messy photo of my workstation.

First step sketch it.

Step 2 : Wet on wet base color. It means I wet the paper with just plain water, then add the color.

Step 3: Let it dry.  Patience is a virtue. You can play temple run first. :)

Step 4: With a fine brush add the details, dry paper with wet brush, hence dry on wet technique. :)

step 5: Asses your work, on the last minute I decided to add the birds. :)

step 6: Give yourself a treat! yay!

I am an artist and I invest in the stock market

When I tell people that I invest in the stock market people get shocked, maybe because they think artists should not know how to handle their money or people who are in marketing or accounting courses are the only ones who should invest in stock market. There was this instance when an investment bank representative asked me what my course is and I said fine arts, he stopped writing and looked me in the eye and said "really?! investing is very far from your course?" It's like i'm a weird person standing in front of him. (oh wait I am weird! haha)

Most of the people I talk to have different opinions and questions about the stock market. And most of them are wrong. Here are some of them.

Frequently asked questions about investing in the stock market:

  1. Do you need big amounts of cash to invest?
No. you can start investing slowly with just 5k and you can do it online. (I regularly invest online using www.colfinancial.com as my online broker)
  2. Do you have to be good with numbers?
No. If that is the case then I should not be investing! :) Everyone can invest Bo's maids invest in the stock market.
  3. Many people lose their money in the stock market, I might lose money too?
Most people who lost money in the stocks are TRADERS not INVESTORS. Also I only invest on giant companies.
  4. So I can be a millionaire in a year?!
ah no, this is investing not lotto! Using the cost averaging method, it will take 10-20years for your investment to grow.
  5. How do you know which stock to buy?
I subscribed to Bo Sanchez truly rich club for P497 a month (yes bo the preacher, he also invest in the stock market) and i get updates and information about the stocks that i need to buy. He also sends emails and other free stuff. His maids also has shares in the stock market. So it's really easy and you don't have to spend a lot of time on it. Don't worry you can still paint! :)

So fellow artists let's start painting & investing! :)

Graphika Manila 2013

My first Graphika Manila conference yesterday was a blast! :) All of the speakers had one thing in common, they love doing their craft. It's really their passion that fuels them to do great and awesome things!

JAMES WHITE / signal noise / graphic design

  • have personal projects, the kind that makes you stay up in the morning until 3am
  • do what you love to do even if there is no monetary gain in it, eventually money will follow
  • if you don't have client work, do personal projects
  • explore. play.
  • on social media don't try to do all, just select some where you can maximize its effects, or where you can best promote your art
Here are some of James' work:

We left the conference feeling inspired by the speakers! Will update this with the rest of the awesome people! :)

Purple Pig Balloon

We love birthday surprises at the office. So when the head of our accounts got a year older we decided to surprise her with the things she like! And she likes purple things & pigs.
What better way to surprise her with a purple pig balloon! Everybody at the office gave her a purple balloon with a birthday greeting. So I drew a pig and since I belong to the digital department, I decided to give her a QR code message! (because it makes me look techie & cool! niyahaha) :)

Happy Birthday Rissa! :)
